Sky News host Chris Smith says it is obvious to him the risk of coronavirus clusters can be reduced by ensuring travellers produce evidence of a negative COVID-19 test before flying to Australia.
“Throughout this summer period I’ve been arguing for a ‘no test no fly’ rule for overseas returning travellers,” Mr Smith said.
He pointed to recent outbreaks in Australia which had been linked back to overseas strains which had made it into Australia.
“It’s been obvious to me that we can reduce the risk of these clusters by ensuring travellers produce evidence of a negative COVID test before flying to Australia.”
Mr Smith also noted Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan has “come onboard” with this proposal.
“It’s still a bit rich for Mark McGowan to lecture others about what to do,” he said.
“But on this score he’s right, credit where it’s due.”
