New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian “deserves great credit” for her gutsy risk management throughout the coronavirus pandemic, says Sky News host Chris Smith.
His comments come after NSW recorded eight further cases of COVID-19.
“The second day of single figures, Premier Gladys Berejiklian moved slightly to create a better Christmas for those in the state,” Mr Smith said.
“This is about striking a balance using compassion … it’s managing the risks, not creating hard rules to seek total elimination.”
Mr Smith said Premier Berejiklian’s Christmas restriction movements are an example of what happens when “grownups take over in the room”, taking control and balancing various risks rather than “cowering in the face of a pandemic and shutting the joint down”.
“You can see where this is going, an incredibly fast suppression of the virus in this cluster and an effective containment in Greater Sydney,” he said.
“Gladys Berejiklian deserves great credit for her gutsy risk management during this pandemic, something that can’t be said for several other leaders right around this nation.”
