The Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Michael Shoebridge says Americans “are right” to have doubts about the ability of US President Joe Biden to stand up to Xi Jinping.
His comments come after a survey of American voters revealed they are very skeptical about President Biden’s ability on the issue.
“You look at that survey and there is a bit of a split between Republicans and Democrats on China,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“They agree its their most pressing foreign policy issue, but they’re mixed about is China an adversary, a competitor, or a partner.
“Biden’s trying to square that circle by saying it’s extreme competition.”
