US President Donald Trump has urged Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify Joe Biden’s victory when Congress convenes on Wednesday, local time.
President Trump tweeted that the vice president can interfere with the procedural process when both houses of Congress meets.
“If Vice President @Mike_Pence comes through for us, we will win the Presidency,” President Trump tweeted.
“Many States want to decertify the mistake they made in certifying incorrect & even fraudulent numbers in a process NOT approved by their State Legislatures (which it must be). Mike can send it back!”
Mr Pence has reportedly told President Trump he does not have the constitutional power to overturn the presidential election.
The Electoral College met in December and officially ratified President-elect Joe Biden’s 305 to 232 victory.
President Trump claimed there were widespread cases of voter fraud in a number of key states, an accusation that has not been borne out in the courts.
