There has been a “slap to the face of all of our Diggers” after ANZAC Day marches were banned in Victoria but a recent music festival, which saw thousands attend, was allowed to proceed, says Victorian Shadow Police Minister David Southwick.
Mr Southwick spoke to Sky News host Chris Kenny about the recent cancellation of Melbourne’s Anzac Day march, which was called off due to COVID-19 concerns.
The march has now been banned for its second year in a row in the state.
Over the weekend, the SummerSalt music festival on the Mornington Peninsula was allowed to proceed, drawing massive crowds.
“The hypocrisy that’s just been going on in Victoria just never ever stops,” Mr Southwick told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“It’s so sad to see that our Diggers can’t march in Victoria, they can march in other states, but they can’t in Victoria, and yet we’re allowed to have a music festival on the weekend go ahead.
“Where is the consistency, it’s just completely unfair.
“It’s a slap in the face of all of our diggers, the fact that they can’t march while people in a music festival are able to go for their lives.”
