There is a need for ‘nuanced language’ in diplomacy with China

Home Affairs Secretary Mike Pezzullo’s comments about being prepared for war was a “real attention grabber” but there is a need for nuanced language, according to Bondi Partners National Security Advisor Mark Watson.

“He would have chosen his words carefully, he would have known fully what the impact of those words would be, and he would have had them cleared politically with his minister,” he told Sky News.

Mr Watson said the speech was “designed to send a message” and while it did not mention China by name the subject of the speech was clear.

“This is a very dangerous time we’re in the but that does point to the need for nuanced language.”
