A mother whose son died by suicide in 2014 while serving in the ADF says she absolutely welcomes the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran suicide but also comments the announcement was “very bittersweet”.
Suicide prevention campaigner Nikki Jamieson said she was “absolutely elated” and absolutely welcomed the royal commission.
“But of course, the royal commission was borne from the most unimaginable losses,” Ms Jamieson told Sky News.
“And my son was one of them”.
“I can’t bring him back, he’s not here to share his truth, but I absolutely welcome veterans, families, defence personnel, who are currently serving to have this opportunity to stand up and speak their truth”.
