Moree Councillor and farmer Mike Montgomery has spoken to Sky News about how the area is coping and rebounding from tough drought conditions and the state border lockdowns.
Mr Montgomery said amid the state border lockdowns it’s “been hard” to get people into the regions to come and pick crops.
He said a “major problem” is that “people don’t understand where their food comes from”.
“We’re a long way from Sydney, we’re a long way from Melbourne … we need people to come out here and experience what life’s like”.
“People are happy in doing what they do, and they don’t really want to go out into the country and live,” he said.
“But it’s cheaper to live here, you will get paid a good wage, you’re not going to get ripped off.
“You will work hard, but you will be rewarded from it.”
