There is a growing sense that there is a takeover of the NSW Liberal Party by people who would be “better off in the Greens” after another policy looks to pander to the Greens, according to Peta Credlin.
Leaked reports reveal a plan went to cabinet aimed at decriminalising the use of ice and other party drugs supposedly in order to clear up the courts which would save administrative costs.
“The idea that it’s ever OK to use some drug cooked up in a backyard lab by a bikie gang is just crackers,” she said.
NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman reportedly pitched the idea to cabinet as a way to save money.
“A short-term win on the cost of administering justice, but what about the long-term impacts in other portfolios,” Ms Credlin said.
“Mental health issues from addiction, a spike in crime when users run out of money, or lose their families, jobs and home.
“If this gets up, NSW will be tougher on smoking cigarettes than on using ice.
“More and more, it feels like there’s a growing takeover of the NSW Party by people who would be better off in the Greens. This sort of watering down of drug policy is the Greens’ holy grail.”
