The Australian’s Dennis Shanahan says he thinks federal Labor’s primary vote is still “too low” and that he just can’t see the party “regaining any great ground” in the near future.
The latest Newspoll published by The Australian overnight has shown support for the Coalition and Labor is split 50-50 on a two-party preferred basis.
Labor’s primary vote has remained unchanged at 36 per cent, compared to the Coalition’s 42 per cent.
Sky News host Peta Credlin said Labor’s primary vote is “hardly election winning”.
“I don’t think the numbers here show any remarkable change at all,” Mr Shanahan told Sky News.
“I think on the primary vote that we have today Labor couldn’t win the election if it was, so-called, held tomorrow.
“As well, the overall supremacy of Scott Morrison over Anthony Albanese has been maintained,” he said.
