There are elements within society which are reluctant to “relinquish the control” assumed during the coronavirus pandemic with many people wanting not to return to the old normal, according to Spiked Online’s Brendan O’Neill.
The first doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered in the UK prompting mass excitement with many Britons looking forward to a return of their freedoms.
Mr O’Neill said though there are some people who want to enforce what is “terrifyingly referred to as the new normal”.
“Which is a world in which we will still have to wear masks, we will still have to follow certain rules, and we will still live under a pretty authoritarian regime”.
“There are some rather antisocial, authoritarian elements out there. The fight for freedom is still on even though we’ve got the vaccine.”
