Federal government agrees to fund half of 2032 Olympics for an equal say in decisions

Sky News host Peter Gleeson said the agreement the Queensland and federal governments had come to surrounding the funding for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane splits costs and decision making.

“The Palaszczuk government put the federal government on the spot last week by saying look there’s a deadline of Monday as far as the joint funding is concerned,” he told Sky News.

Mr Gleeson said the money was for redevelopments of arenas like the Gabba but the federal government has agreed to split the cost if they can split the decision making.

“What’s actually happened now in federal government has said ‘yes we’ll pay the 50-50 arrangement but we also want a 50-50 say in what goes on in appointments and decision making around what goes where’.”
