Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General Amanda Stoker says the government’s Family Court merger is the “first step” in necessary changes.
It comes after the Morrison government implemented a sweeping restructure of the Family Court system, merging it with the Federal Circuit Court.
“It’s the almost universal feedback of people who are having any contact with the political system, that the main source of the complaints that they get to their offices is problems with the human experience of dealing with the family law system,” Ms Stoker told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“So it’s really important this doesn’t languish in the ‘too hard basket’.
“What we must do is make sure that people are safe, that they can get to a resolution that allows them to move on with their lives practically, and that we can do so in a reasonably time for a reasonable price.
“These reforms represent the first step – and there are a few needed – to being able to make the changes necessary to whip it into shape.”
