Liberal MP Craig Kelly says the Paris Climate Accord gives China a “competitive advantage,” as Australia’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030 is questioned.
“China has no commitment to 2030. China – under Paris – can continue to increase their emissions as much as they like,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
Mr Kelly said in light of how hostile China is to Australia about trade and its interference in embassies worldwide, it would be “criminal” to let China be exempt from the accord.
“We see how hostile China is to us on trade today, we’ve seen the interference with what they’re doing in the embassies around the world, we see what they’re doing in the South China Sea. To hand this sort of competitive advantage to China is absolutely, I think, criminal.”
