Sky News host Chris Smith says how many times this year have we seen “these bloody-minded” rules about borders bring heartbreak to Australian families.
“The latest victim of cruel bureaucracy involves three-year-year-old Thomas Collins,” Mr Smith said.
The young Brisbane boy passed away in his parent’s arms in a Melbourne hospital on the weekend.
His parents were pushing to have the family return to Brisbane in order for their child to be able to see extended family members.
Thomas was suffering from Severe Combined Immunodeficiency.
A request of exemption had been lodged with Queensland Health for their family to return to the state, however young Thomas passed away before they could do so.
“I hope the Queensland premier is really happy about being re-elected, because there are families everywhere, including in her own state, who will never forgive the lack of compassion, from the top, right down,” Mr Smith said.
