Australians ‘should not’ be grateful for restrictions being eased

Sky News host Alan Jones has asked why Australians should be grateful for the easing of restrictions, which can’t be justified epidemiologically, asking why people might be permitted to drink outdoors while standing but indoors they must be seated.

NSW Shadow Transport Minister Chris Minns said the latest easing of restrictions the Berejiklian government announced as “freedom day” were fundamental liberties which people ought to have.

“We need to remember these are fundamental liberties the government is not giving back to people; it’s their right to have them and I think they should publish a timeframe and time map when all restrictions will be lifted,” he said.

Police Minister David Elliott said he begged the Health Minister and Chief Medical Officer to make sure restrictions would be eased as quickly as possible.

“Nobody likes them… but this is all about mitigating the risk,” he said.
