Sky News host Chris Smith says Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews must “love the sound of his own voice” and “laps up” the drama, following his recent late-night press conference to announce a new COVID-19 case.
It comes after Premier Andrews announced the reinstatement of restrictions for all Victorians following a positive COVID-19 test result from an Australian Open hotel quarantine worker.
A 26-year old man from Noble Park tested positive for coronavirus after developing symptoms following an initial negative test.
Premier Andrews told a late-night press conference given this is only one case there is “no need to panic”.
Mr Smith said the premier “could have put a statement out last night saying, ‘hey listen we’re going to have a press conference tomorrow morning, we’ve got one infection, it’s a hotel quarantine worker”.
Mr Smith said however, he does think Premier Andrews made a “proportionate response in this case”.
“And it’s the first time I’ve seen him do it. Maybe he’s learned the lessons”.
