Victorian Shadow Police Minister David Southwick says everything the Andrews government does are knee-jerk decisions with the details being “absolutely last”.

It comes amid news more than 2,000 Victorians are stranded in New South Wales and applying for exemptions to go home as the Victorian government retains a hard border to the state.

“This government shut a border on New Year’s Eve, gave people eight hours’ notice to get out of New South Wales … and no wonder we are now experiencing absolute confusion, frustration, anger,” Mr Southwick told Sky News.

“The consequences are absolutely huge.”

Mr Southwick said there is now a situation where if those stranded Victorians do not get home by next Wednesday, “their children will miss the first day of school”.

“We know that many kids had to remote learn last year, and it’s the last thing that we want to have – our young kids going through 2021 having to home-school again,” he said.

“Everything that the Andrews Labor government does is knee-jerk decisions with details absolutely last.”
