When it comes to celebrities’ views ‘one side get fired and the other doesn’t’

The Centre for Independent Studies’ Monica Wilkie says Gina Carano’s dismissal from Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian’ shows that when it comes to stars speaking on politics “one side gets fired and the other doesn’t”.

“The establishment has been after Gina Carano for quite some time, she’s been an very outspoken Trump supporter over the years, she has poked a little bit of fun at the American government’s response to COVID which is another no-no in these times,” she told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

Ms Wilkie said the stance a celebrity has on issues is now overshadowing their work as stars will get asked their stance on government policy in interviews.

“It’s almost expected whenever a Hollywood celebrity or a musician has a new movie or CD that comes out or something along those lines, there’s interviews and they’re asked what they think about climate change.”
