Western Australia tightens hotel quarantine controls after Boxing Day breach

Western Australia will tighten hotel quarantine controls to include greater powers for security guards and a risk assessment model after the state experienced a serious breach on Boxing Day.

A 49-year-old woman is now in prison after breaking out of her hotel quarantine room on December 26.

The new controls will include security guards being allowed to restrain anyone they believe are leaving quarantine early, physical barriers in hotels, and risk assessments to gauge if passengers will need to be transported to a higher risk hotel.
