NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says people must stop living “in fear and anxiety” about the virus and must “get back to some level of normality”.
Mr Barilaro spoke to Sky News host Chris Kenny about the state borders lockdowns that were seen across Australia at various times in response to the pandemic.
“We can’t afford to close borders,” he said.
“We now have in place vaccine rollout right across the country, our biggest risk is quarantine”.
“That’s why quarantine workers are being prioritised with the vaccine rollout – it is a human system, things can go wrong”.
Mr Barilaro said, “overall as a nation” Australia has done a “bloody good job in managing the pandemic, now rolling out the vaccine and keeping the economy going”.
“But let’s now start thinking of Australia first, not state by state, it’s got to be what’s good for the broader good of the nation”.
