Sky News host Chris Kenny says the fire fighting effort in Perth being adjusted to minimise the risk of COVID-19 despite the battle against a life-threatening blaze shows “how nutty all this can get”.
The out of control bushfire has devastated nearly 80 per cent of all properties at Tilden Park, with investigators currently looking into whether any lives have been lost.
DFES Deputy Commissioner Craig Waters confirmed there are a number of restrictions for firefighters in vehicles including the wearing of masks and social distancing.
“We’re just trying to reduce the crowding of appliances,” Mr Waters said.
Mr Kenny said he would have thought fighting the fire with “maximum resources” would be the “highest priority”.
“No more infections for the past two days, but ration your firefighters,” he said.
“This not the practical, self-reliant, go-get-em Australia that I know.”
