Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced the reinstatement of restrictions for all Victorians following a positive COVID-19 test result from an Australian Open hotel quarantine worker.
A 26-year old man from Noble Park tested positive for coronavirus after developing symptoms following an initial negative test.
The man – who is also a Country Fire Authority volunteer – is currently in a health hotel and his household contacts have been isolated.
Premier Andrews told a late-night press conference given this is only one case there is “no need to panic”.
“I’m confident that we’ve got this in good time and we are working as hard as we possibly can,” he said.
He also stressed the need for anyone who has developed symptoms to get tested first thing on Thursday morning.
As a result of the new coronavirus case, the premier announced that from 11:59 on Wednesday night the New Year’s Eve restriction settings would be reinstated.
Private gatherings will be limited to 15 only, and masks will be mandatory inside for private and public gatherings.
