One of the strongest earthquakes to hit the South Pacific in modern history has triggered tsunami warnings in parts of New Zealand.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from homes in coastal areas and small tsunami waves were captured on camera.
But despite the concern, no major damage or injuries were reported with authorities praising residents for their quick response.
