If US President Joe Biden truly means it when he says he wants to heal and unify the nation, he will stop Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats from “trying to impeach and even convict” Donald Trump, says Sky News host Sharri Markson.
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are gearing up for their second impeachment trial in two years rejecting suggestions it could be unconstitutional to impeach a president who has already left office.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will send the article of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday.
The House of Representatives recently voted to impeach President Trump for a historic second time alleging he incited a mob to attack the Capitol.
Ms Markson said President Biden should stop Ms Pelosi, not for “Trump’s sake,” but rather for those who support him, and in the interest of calming the nation.
“In the interest of peace”.
Ms Markson said it should be done in the interest of the 74 million Americans who voted for Trump.
“If Biden wants to heal the nation, don’t try to throw in prison the person they voted for,” Ms Markson said.
“Of course, convict and use the full letter of the law against the vigilantes who started and participated in the storming of the Capitol”.
“And equally authorities should convict and prosecute those responsible for violence and the destruction of property during the Black Lives Matter protests.
“The law needs to apply equally to all sides of the political spectrum.”
