Sky News host Chris Kenny says former Collingwood President Eddie McGuire’s demise was perhaps fuelled by his own desire to “tick all the woke boxes”, but the pile on was “ugly”.
It comes after Mr McGuire resigned following the release of the ‘Do Better’ report into the club’s handling of racism.
“It was an ignominious way to end his own career,” Mr Kenny said.
“The report authors talked of ‘systemic racism’ – citing some questionable examples such as booing at a grand final 50 years ago – but neither McGuire nor the club was ‘found guilty’ of anything.
“They commissioned the inquiry into their own club, but the pile on was ugly.”
