Tasmanian Opposition Leader Rebecca White has called on Premier Peter Gutwein to resign because his government “failed to deliver” on infrastructure projects.
Ms White said the reason the budget has additional funding is because the Liberal government has not delivered on the projects it promised at the last election and has re-announced them for the upcoming election.
Premier Gutwein strongly rejected Ms White comments calling them a “fantasy” which has gone on too long.
“The reason we have additional revenue … is because the economy is much stronger than what was first predicted,” he told the People’s Forum hosted by Sky News and The Mercury.
“State revenue’s up over $400 million over the forward estimates. GST is up about $600 million over the forward estimates because of stronger national growth”.
Mr Gutwein also slammed Labor’s $1.3 billion of recurrent spending in its fiscal statement in comparison to his $800 million, which he said would push the budget “back into deficit almost immediately”.
