Queensland Labor Party candidate for Groom Chris Meibusch says, through the by-election following a shock resignation, the Morrison government will be sent a message about their ignorance of regional seats.
Southern Queenslanders will today decide the new MP for the Coalition stronghold of Groom.
The LNP is widely expected to retain the seat in a by-election triggered by a shock resignation.
“It’s been a marvellous opportunity for this election in regional Queensland to really send a message that they’re ignoring these safe LNP seats,” Mr Meibusch told Sky News.
“There’s no doubt now that the message is out there and that we have major funding requests on the table.
“All that funding that’s been provided by the Morrison government … all that sort of funding is going to the marginal seats.
“This is regional Queensland standing up and saying enough is enough.”
