Scott Morrison warns colleagues against amplification of his scathing China comments

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has told his party room that his comments calling a highly offensive and doctored picture from a Chinese official ‘repugnant’ do not need any further amplification.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said the prime minister has urged his Liberal and National colleagues to refrain from adding to the comments in which he also demanded China apologise for the post.

The tweet from a Chinese foreign ministry official showed a falsified picture of an Australian soldier holding a knife to the throat of an Afghani child.

Mr Clennell said the prime minister “threw a grenade” in his comments and he doesn’t think it could be “more amplified”.
