Quad summit brought together ‘by shared interests’ against China

The Australian’s Paul Kelly says the Quad grouping of nations is brought together by the “shared interest” of safeguarding against China.

“This is not necessarily a natural grouping of four nations but they’ve been brought together … essentially by China’s tactics, China’s assertiveness, the way it’s been behaving diplomatically, the way it’s been flexing its muscles,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

Mr Kelly said the Quad is off to an “encouraging start” but it is hard to say if the initiative will come to anything in the future.

“If China continues on this path I think the Quad will be very important.”
