Labor frontbencher Stephen Jones says the idea that international students would be prioritised to come to the nation over Australians seeking to return home is just “bloody crazy”.
It comes after New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet recently spoke to Sky News about the NSW state government push to allow international students to return to the state.
International students are New South Wales’ biggest service export and the number one export after coal.
“Frankly I think the New South Wales Treasurer made a bit of a nong of himself last week saying what he did,” Mr Jones told Sky News host Sharri Markson.
Mr Jones said the “number one priority” is to “get our Australians back home”.
