Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to “latch on to that star power of Oprah” to become more powerful and influential in the United States, according to Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen.
The pair are set to feature in a tell-all interview with TV legend Oprah Winfrey in March where they will reveal their true thoughts and feelings of their time in Britain and why they left the monarchy.
Ms Nielsen said Americans are aware of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle but there is “not the same kind of emotional attachment” to them as there is in the UK.
“This is all really about building their platform, so that they are more influential in America,” she said.
“They’re hoping to latch on to that start power of Oprah Winfrey.”
