Politicians must be kept focused on logical and proportionate responses to the virus otherwise the “hysterical media” and the “nanny state alarmists” will have us closed up and locked down forever, says Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Kenny spoke of the trans-Tasman border bubble between Australia and New Zealand along with the new COVID-19 case that was uncovered in an Auckland airport worker today.
“Many of us feared the bubble would burst on day two,” Mr Kenny said.
“So, one case, a relatively obvious and reassuring source of infection … and guess what, even Jacinda Ardern was responding sensibly, vowing to keep the bubble open”.
Mr Kenny said New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has “as ever, held firm and sensible” on the issue.
“Someone has to speak up for reopening, for common sense, for proportionate responses and for learning to live with the virus, with the benefit of a vaccine thrown into boot.
“And Gladys Berejiklian continues to be that person.
“Gladys Berejiklian is helping keep Greg Hunt and Scott Morrison in line with her logic, which, after all, is only the logic that the prime minister and his team outlined at the start of this pandemic.
“It goes to show, that we really have to keep our politicians focused on this stuff because otherwise the hysterical media and nanny state alarmists will have us closed up and locked down forever.
