Business Council of Australia Chief Executive Jennifer Westacott says Prime Minister Scott Morrison sent a “really important signal” on Monday night in terms of his government’s commitment to emissions reduction.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison laid out his government’s roadmap to net zero emissions by 2050 in a speech to the Business Council of Australia on Monday night.
Ms Westacott told Sky News, business is “very committed” to the target and the prime minister’s speech indicated the government is also ready to move towards strong emissions reduction.
She said the prime minister sent a signal to the business community of the government’s support which will “draw in investment,” but he also emphasised the need for “broader economic transformation”.
Mr Morrison declared the cafes, dinner parties and wine bars of inner cities will not determine net zero emissions policy.
He said Australia will achieve net zero in its own way relying on technology and the “animal spirits of our business community” rather than through taxes.
