People are ‘shaking their heads’ over $5000 spent on Christmas tree

The Northern Territory Health Department’s decision to spend over $5000 in taxpayer money on leasing a Christmas tree has drawn ire from the local community, says Sky News Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham.

“People are just shaking their heads at the NT Health Department, who has blown their budget year after year after year after year, has spent $5000 on a Christmas tree,” Matt Cunningham told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.

Chief Minister of the Northern Territory Michael Gunner has admitted the tree “wasn’t the best use” of taxpayer money.
