Sky News contributor Daisy Cousens says Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s “sudden flip” on border closures is an “absolute pain in the neck”.
It comes after Australia suspended its travel bubble with New Zealand for at least three days over coronavirus concerns.
Anyone who has travelled to Australia from New Zealand from January 14 must seek testing – and isolate – until a negative result is returned.
“It’s not just hypocritical, it is an absolute pain in the neck,” Ms Cousens told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“I can’t stand this sudden flip that he’s done on borders.”
Ms Cousens said the prime minister made the move simply because it “polls well” and there is an “election in the air”.
“You (Morrison) are just pandering to the Queenslanders that Annastacia Palaszczuk has terrified the living daylights out of because you want them to vote for you,” she said.
“It is so blatantly obvious that their COVID policies are now based on politics and vote winning.”
