The Herald Sun’s National Political Editor Tom Minear told Sky News not nearly enough time is spent in Australia talking about how the “Closing the Gap targets aren’t being met”.
Australia Day this year will once again play host to many activists and protests pushing to ‘change the date’ labelling the current anniversary ‘invasion day’.
The ABC has today come under scrutiny for posting an article detailing what events are on “Australia Day/Invasion Day”.
Mr Minear said about the furor that the “bigger problem is Indigenous disadvantage”.
“It would be great if we saw more energy dedicated to dealing with those kind of more systemic issues, rather than the kind of easy debate we have around change the date don’t change the date”.
State Political Editor for The Courier Mail Steven Wardill said he really hopes Australians start “talking about Indigenous disadvantage on more days than January 25”.
