Mathias Cormann has made the critics “eat humble pie” with his selection as the new Secretary-General of the OECD, according to Sky News host Chris Smith.
Mr Cormann’s five-year term will begin on June 1.
“Some even laughed at the idea of former finance minister Mathias Cormann having any chance of being selected,” Mr Smith said.
“For starters, it’s primarily an English French body – the OECD, with a very European bent,” Mr Smith said.
“During COVID-19, you’d have to find a way of meeting delegates from 37 nations … things were against us”.
“Thanks to his European roots, his tri-lingual skills, and an expensive travel itinerary, Cormann made the critics eat humble pie.”
