Sky News host Cory Bernardi says NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has effectively “declared war” with the Liberal Party.
Mr Barilaro on Tuesday announced a candidate from the NSW Nationals will run in the seat of Port Macquarie against sitting MP Leslie Williams.
Ms Williams – who holds the seat – defected from the Nationals to the Liberals earlier this year.
Mr Barilaro on Tuesday said, “the people of Port Macquarie deserve to make this choice”.
Normally under the Coalition agreement the Liberal and Nationals candidates don’t run against one another.
Social Commentator Prue MacSween said it was a Nationals seat and Mr Barilaro has “every right to put a candidate up”.
