Sky News host Peta Credlin says whether it’s the GFC, the COVID crisis, or record-low interest rates, as far as Labor governments are concerned, any time is a good time to spend because “someone else’s money is music to a socialist’s ears”.
“Now I accept that having closed businesses down to save us from disease, the government had to spend to keep them on life support. And I’m all in favour of better infrastructure that will boost Australia’s long-term, economic performance,” she said.
“My problem with many of our politicians today is that debt and deficit have now become a way of life for the government, even though every single dollar that government spends has to be raised from you either from taxes today or taxes tomorrow.
“And Labor governments have become quite shameless about ripping off tomorrow, to dazzle the electorate and buy votes, with yet more spending today”.
On Tuesday, Victoria’s budget was released which will see the state be thrust into massive net-debt over the coming years.
Flagging today’s Victorian budget, Ms Credlin said Premier Daniel Andrews was “almost gloating” about all his new spending.
“Thanks to sweetheart deals with the CFMEU – the same mob that gives the premier his muscle at polling booths on election day – labour costs in Melbourne are now the second-highest in the world, behind New York,” she said.
“And we do know that Victoria’s public service wages bill has grown 60 per cent over the past seven years also due to padded numbers and special deals designed to boost Daniel Andrews’ public sector army.
“To be honest, I don’t think Daniel Andrews cares about the state of the budget. By the time the reckoning comes, I’m of the view he’ll be long gone.
“Having shut the state down for four months, all he wants is to-open-it-up quickly so that he can retire on a high note, join some union super fund board, and live off his taxpayer pension of $300,000 or so per annum, while the rest of us and our grandchildren are left paying his bills.”
