Rural Indigenous issues are being brought to the public eye by the Daily Telegraph and ACU’s Dr Anthony Dillon says it is a good thing rural areas are getting the focus.
“I’m pleased to see the issue being raised and again credit to the paper for focusing on these people that are in the non-urbanised and rural areas where they’re doing a lot tougher than the city based Indigenous people,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“We need to raise awareness and tell people this is where the problems are.”
The Daily Telegraph Editor Ben English says this is part of what will be an “ongoing theme” of highlighting social issues to the viewership to enact change.
“Some of our most avid readers are politicians and they know that if there’s an issue on the front page of the Daily Telegraph they need to potentially respond to that.”
