Victorian Shadow Health Minister Georgie Crozier has slammed the Andrews government’s distribution of quarantine exemptions following the story of a mother’s attempts to get her sick daughter necessary medical treatment.
Her comments come after a Victorian mother revealed she has been denied an exemption to return to Melbourne so her sick daughter, who suffers from a rare form of cancer, can receive much-needed treatment at home following an overseas trip for medical care.
Kristy Colakidis told sky News about her daughter’s ordeal to return back home.
Ms Colakidis said her daughter, five-year-old Samantha, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, when she was three and a half.
She said concerns raised to both the New South Wales and Victorian governments “fell on deaf ears”.
“It just beggars belief these double standards of the Andrews government when they’re allowing positive tennis players to come into Victoria,” Ms Crozier told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Ms Crozier said the mother and her child had been put in the “terrible situation” at the hands of “bureaucrats who won’t provide exemptions”.
“I just think it’s absolutely appalling.”
