NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham has urged Energy Minister Matt Kean to recall a $10 million grant handed to Chinese-owned wind turbine company Goldwind, saying Australia should not encourage Chinese expansion into essential infrastructure.
Goldwind Australia, a subsidiary of a Chinese company which is the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, was recently handed a $10 million grant from NSW taxpayers by Energy Minister Matt Kean.
“It’s the worst possible timing because the relationship with China has deteriorated quickly,” Mr Latham told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“For Matt Kean to be handing over $10 million of New South Wales taxpayer funds to a Chinese-owned and operated company – which certainly doesn’t need this amount of money – supposedly for a hybrid gas battery storage mechanism just shows that we take a big risk.
“I would urge the minister if he can to recall that grant.
“We shouldn’t be encouraging Chinese expansion into essential infrastructure like the power grid.”
