Sky News host Chris Smith says given Joe Biden’s “mental incapacity” it is quite likely Kamala Harris will “take the reins” of the White House well before the end of this term.
Mr Smith said Australia must plan for the emergence of Kamala Harris as the “most powerful woman in the world” given this likelihood.
Joe Biden has officially been sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.
Mr Smith discussed what the implications of the new presidency will mean for Australia.
He said there will be pressure on Prime Minister Scott Morrison over aspects of his new relationship with President Biden.
“There will be pressure on the prime minister this year, to join Joe Biden’s climate change crusade, you can bet on it,” Mr Smith said.
“In particular, to set a target of zero net emissions by 2050,” Mr Smith said.
“But if Biden can assist in resolving trade tensions between Australia and China, that commitment might be worth the backflip.
“We will see.”
