Liberal MP and Afghanistan veteran Phillip Thompson says the allegations of a few should not punish the majority, as he spoke of the fallout of the Brereton report.
Mr Thompson, along with Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon, established the Parliamentary friends of defence honours and citations group to teach politicians about the meanings of military honours and citations.
“I want to make sure that all the people here are just across their brief instead of running their mouths on Twitter,” he told Sky News.
Mr Thompson was also critical of how the Brereton report has focused on lower level defence personnel instead of the commanders, saying it is from the top where the culture comes from.
“You can’t just sit there in the senior echelons and go ‘look how bad the diggers are and look how bad the culture is’,” he said.
“Leadership starts at the top.”
