Victoria has confirmed all international flights into the state will be halted from Saturday, following Premier Daniel Andrews’ suggestions of a “cold hard conversation” about international arrivals, according to Sky News reporter Gabriella Power.
The Andrews government confirmed the news in a statement, noting this excluded all flights which are “already in transit”.
“We know this will be difficult news for people who are overseas and want to get home, but our focus has to be taking this short, sharp action,” the statement read.
Ms Power noted Premier Daniel Andrews had today suggested a “cold hard discussion about hotel quarantine” and the number of arrivals which are accepted back into Australia.
“He made the suggestion that we should only be accepting a few hundred Australians that need to get home for compassionate grounds, but that is certainly a big statement to make,” she told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
