The ABC goes out of its way to meet a multitude of diversity quotas, and yet it is still “not good enough” and there will always be a problem, according to Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

It comes as the ABC undergoes criticism for lack of diversity in photos from their program launch which showed only white on-air presenters.

Former human rights commissioner Tim Soutphommasane made a tweet about the topic, saying there is a “very long way to go before we see our diversity on screens”.

“You’re never going to appease these groups,” Mr Houghton told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“They want these arbitrary data points, these descriptors of who you are; namely your race, your gender and sometimes your age.”

Mr Houghton said it is a “very narrow way to classify” people and then continue to make “hiring decisions”.

“I just find it the most bizarre thing ever.”
