The vaccine rollout in the US is currently only aimed at people considered to be top priority, however there are concerns people lower down the list will try to jump the queue, creating a black market for the jab.
The people with the highest priority to get the vaccine are healthcare workers and aged care residents, the groups most as risk, before it goes to those who are in danger of getting a severe form of the virus.
“Those who skip the line will be getting a vaccine someone else needs more,” said American Physician Dr Leana Wen.
“A black market could develop … all coronavirus vaccines in the US are ordered through the CDC and if you get one outside this process, there’s no guarantee that what you’re getting is actually the authorised vaccine”.
