Sky News host Chris Smith says “we are all Australians” and that in an emergency borders mean nothing, as shown after New South Wales sent a water bomber to help fight a devastating bushfire on Queensland’s Fraser Island.
Mr Smith said in the past months, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk “completely ignored the fact” that there were Australians in need who couldn’t access the state and its hospitals.
“There were all kinds of serious medical cases in northern New South Wales which were being ignored” when the state had its hard border up, he said.
“Well thank heavens for the grown-ups in government, specifically the New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian,” Mr Smith said.
He said today, as fire fronts threatened properties and lives on Queensland’s Fraser Island, New South Wales “added its big gun water bomber to the fire effort”.
“Because you see, in an emergency, borders mean nothing. We are all Australians”.
“If only the Queensland Premier had the same commitment to Australians from outside her state, some of those New South Wales people who needed help in August, might not have suffered as much as they did,” he said.
